Oh Hi!

This website is the beginning of pursuing my sugar dreams.  I love cute things and anything sweet and cake art is the ultimate union of the two.  


Today, aside from putting together this modest web page, I've also reached a big decision to drop my minor in Exercise Science and to take Fine Arts classes in design fundamentals.  I hope that the combination of the wonderful business and entrepreneurial education my major is giving me, I can also develop my artistic skill and continue to improve my work.  It's pretty scary to give up my minor to take art, but I know that the art background will be so much more helpful in the future if I decide to pursue my cake art dreams. 

I've been baking and decorating as a hobby for seven years, and I'm never happier than when my hands are stained from food coloring and I'm up to my elbows in powdered sugar :)  Freshman year I lived in the dorms and I actually hauled all my baking ingredients and equipment to an upperclassman's apartment so I could bake my roommate a birthday cake.  It was such a crazy day of baking, building, sculpting, frosting and covering.  On top of the cake project I had to take a marketing midterm in the middle of the day!  Thank goodness my fabulously talented friend Jay was there to help!  Although we were working so hard all day and trying to overcome every little disaster that came along, at the end of the night when the birthday girl came over and saw her huge Mickey Mouse cake it was all worth it.  There's nothing better than seeing someone be so happy from something you made. Fortunately my only cooking appliance is no longer a micro-fridge and I don't have to go to such drastic measures to bake :)  

It's a little scary to take that first step from making a cake as a gift for a close friend to making new designs for paying customers. When I did my first commissioned cake that I got paid for, I was so nervous that my client wouldn't be satisfied.  What if something goes wrong? What if it falls over?  What if I drop it carrying it downstairs? Fortunately, all tragedies were avoided and my client and the birthday boy loved it :)
